Cache In Trash Out

CITO Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Since 2002, CITO has helped preserve the natural beauty of cache-friendly spaces. In that time, more than 363,000 people have volunteered at 18,000 CITO events.

Twice per year, geocachers can earn virtual souvenirs by hosting and attending events during CITO seasons. Visit the Help Center for information on the next CITO season.

Attend CITO Events

At CITO events, geocachers and community groups work together to improve parks and other outdoor environments. They clean up litter, plant trees, remove invasive species, build trails, and more.

Host CITO Events

To host an event, contact a land manager, local organization, or government agency to determine your community’s needs. Make sure to get permission for your project.

Here are some tips to help plan your event:

CITO every day

CITO can happen on every geocaching adventure! Pick up trash that you see on the trail. Clean up the area around each geocache. These small acts make a huge difference.
